Tools to widen your variety of Lutheran Reading Online

The Lutheran Blogosphere is Growing fast. I have more than 40 blogs that I read daily. I have been tempted to try to read the entire BBOV on a daily basis. I just did a quick count and there are more than 175 Confessional Lutheran blogs on it. I somehow doubt if I will ever be able to keep up with all of them on a daily basis. There are many that I have never even seen, I'm sure they are good and would be edifying to me and many other Christians. There is just a ton of information out there.

Fortunately we do have some tools in place to help us get acquainted with other blogs that we may not read daily.

  • First and foremost we have the Lutheran Carnival. In this, we get to read what each blogger contributes as his/her best post from the past couple weeks. Through this tool, I have regularly found new blogs that I now read daily, and a few that I check out at least weekly.

  • We also have the aardies. These are awards granted by Orycteropus Afer at Aardvark Alley. This is much like the Lutheran Carnival, only instead of the posts being contributed by the readers, the posts are selected by Orycteropus Afer. This too has been a great source of information for me, especially in my introduction to the Lutheran Blogosphere. Although it seems to have been a while since awards have been given.

  • There is also the Augsburg Aggregator. This is an RSS feed of a wide variety of Lutheran Blogs. One can look though it for a post with an interesting title, without judging by the title of the Blog. This too allows one to widen their variety of reading.

  • Finally, we have blogrolls and blog directories. The most complete of which is the BBOV. I'm sure most of you know what a blogroll is. The BBOV is very well maintained and thorough, if none of your usual blogs have posted lately, check it out and read a new one. Another tool you could use in the same way is the Lutheran Blog Directory.

Hopefully these tools can be of as much service to you as the continue to be for me.

I'm a big proponent of using blog readers. I previously used bloglines. Then I switched to Mac and started using newsgator with netnewswire. It really helps me stay up on all the blogs that are out there. It saves you from having to go and check all your sites to see if someone has updated

Likewise, I use Newsgator, and keep track of over 100 blogs a day. That's why the RSS feeds are handily included in the Lutheran Blog Directory. Copy and paste them into your aggregator, and you are good to go!

Yes, I too like using RSS aggregators. I suppose I just took that one for-granted in my post. I was thinking of things more specific to the Lutheran Blogosphere.

I have tried a few different aggregators. I started with My Yahoo, which I still use occasionally. I also use bloglines on occasion. However, I usually use the one built in to the browser Maxthon.
